My first blog!!

Hey, my name is Danielle and this is my first blog, I have completed year 1 of Media and Communications and now I am over half way through my second year, here is a little insight how it was for me starting at University of Greenwich…

Growing up I always wanted to go to University, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do at the time I just knew it sounded like a lot of fun. Growing up back and forth between Bedford and Atlanta I was never truly settled; moving around was the normal for me!

When I entered my final year of college I started to think more about my future; what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go, that’s when I though London sounds like the perfect place. I seem to prefer busier environments so I started doing my research in University’s in London with courses related to my interest and then I came across University of Greenwich! Not only did it do the EXACT course I had in mind but it also was in south London which also seemed livelier to me as it had things close such as the O2 Arena which I had always wanted to go to watch my favourite singers perform.

I was not scared to move to Avery Hill as at the age of 20 I had already matured greatly and excitement was more rushing through me rather than nerves. I assumed it would be slightly difficult to make friends as the campus is so big but in fact it was super easy!! With the shuttle bus transporting us to the University in Greenwich it started some of my first friendships as people would just randomly talk to me whilst sitting on the bus which really helped a lot.

Living with 5 complete strangers had to be the weirdest thing for me, I was concerned if we would get a long or if they would be clean enough for me but being in second year now and still living on campus I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it. Most of my flat mates have been a lot of fun and I have made some of the closest friendships I have ever had.

Second year so far has been even better than first year as I know a lot more people and a lot more about the University and the surrounding area, it is very easy to get comfortable living away from home but with the right company it makes it all worth it. I hope to interact with even more people this year and explore one of many of the activities which the University hold.

Although can be overwhelming I can honestly say so far it has been one of my best experiences in life, I am now working within the Enquiry Unit team and so far it has been great, another good opportunity to meet some wonderful people and right now I am completely content with my life.

I am currently about to start revising for my test next month, I have learnt my top priorities throughout this past year and a half and my studies definitely fall first! Coming to University at any age can be daunting but I can guarantee once you have settled in and made friends you will never want to leave!

Look out for my next blog I will be talking about finances, hope you enjoyed! J
